Gilded-Age Republicans were a rotten bunch: business-friendly, labor-hostile, and more than willing to do big business and millionaires big favors. Sounds like today’s Republicans, right?

Not quite. Unlike Scott Walker’s brand of Republican, when Gilded Age Republicans raided the taxpayers’ purse, THEY ACTUALLY GOT THINGS DONE. And at least once in a while they tried to get the government a good bargain.
