MILWAUKEE (AP) A Wisconsin school district's decision to tell bar employees from displaying gay pride flags in classrooms or from putting their preferred pronouns in email signatures prompted pushback from students, alumni and others, while the superintendent said it was just reaffirming a policy that was already in place.
Kettle Moraine School District Superintendent Stephen Plum recently told the school board the district's interpretation of a policy that prohibits staff from using their positions to promote partisan politics, religious views and propaganda for personal, monetary or nonmonetary gain changed following a legal analysis, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

A recent decision by the Kettle Moraine School District to ban pride flags and prohibit the use of pronouns in emails and email signatures has drawn strong opposition.
The district posted about the decision July 27 on its Facebook page. It also posted video from the July 26 School Board meeting, in which the decision was shared as part of Superintendent Stephen Plum's update to the board.
Plum said district policy prohibits staff from using their positions to promote partisan politics, sectarian religious views, selfish propaganda for personal, monetary or nonmonetary gain.
He said after legal analysis of the policy, the expectation is that teachers and administration will not display political or religious messaging in classrooms or on their person, including Pride flags. The expectation also prohibits pronouns, political language and religious views from staff emails and signatures, and that the standardized email expectation is name, position, title, location, certification, awards and degrees.

(5,777 posts)Pride flags are not political, it's a group of people that express Love with a rainbow. Is love not allowed?
I'm not LGBTQ, BUT I support all people with good intensions and love.

(17,643 posts)willing to give them up if that will get rid of all the religious crap that creeps its way into schools.

(5,777 posts)of ALL people should be in schools, and not dismissed as propaganda.
Public schools should be teaching political tolerance, and social tolerance, language parameters along with truthful history can bring us together. The right want to devoid our schools of talking about anything but American exceptionalism, and that is not truthful or helpful for a progressing society.
We can handle the truth.
If the religious zealots can't handle it, then they can go to their private schools.
A lot of these administrators are attending continuing education classes and seminars of private right wing billionaires. They are pushing an ideology devoid of inclusion and progress. Black, white, gay, strait, we are all just people learning to live in our world together peacefully.
If that doesn't work for the religious zealots, then maybe they need to drag their knuckles back into their caves and hash out what happened or didn't thousands of years ago in family disputes. In private schools because some of us are not interested in ancient squables.

(17,643 posts)political it is. Id love for schools to teach inclusion etc but thats not going to happen in some places. Getting rid of the sky daddy stuff is a huge win there. Im in Florida and you wouldnt believe how much religious crap is all over the schools.

(17,643 posts)I was in Bali at a yoga festival and someone asked where I was from. I told them Florida. They were from England and said Oh DeSantis runs that. Then I said you mean DeSatan and we laughed and laughed. I spent way to much time having to explain I didnt vote for him or TFG. They really do think Americans have lost their minds.

(5,170 posts)Putting an LGBTQ+ flag somewhere in my room is not even close to religious material which is expressly not OK as indicated by the Supreme Court.
This decision by the District is some bullshit.

(4,074 posts)And include chapter and verse where God says the rainbow is his sign.
Then let the district try to ban the poster.
