Judge: Trump Likely Committed Crimes by Casting Doubt on Election Results in Wisconsin

President Trump and one of his lawyers likely committed felonies while trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election, a federal judge said Monday.

Trump spent months casting doubt on the results from Wisconsin and six other states. Trump's "Big Lie" culminated in the insurrection at the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 as Congress tallied electoral votes.

“The illegality of the plan was obvious,” Judge David Carter wrote in his ruling. “[Trump attorney John] Eastman and President Trump launched a campaign to overturn a democratic election, an action unprecedented in American history. Their campaign was not confined to the ivory tower—it was a coup in search of a legal theory. The plan spurred violent attacks on the seat of our nation’s government, led to the deaths of several law enforcement officers, and deepened public distrust in our political process.”

“The evidence demonstrates that President Trump likely attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021,” he concluded. He also said it was likely he and Eastman committed a second felony of attempting to defraud the United States.

The judge ruled that Eastman can no longer claim attorney-client privilege over more than 100 emails sought by the congressional committee investigating the insurrection because such privilege does not extend to actions taken while knowingly participating in an illegal activity.

the judge's words were, "more than likely," committed a felony. More than likely isn't enough in a criminal case, a prosecutor needs, beyond a reasonable doubt.

With that said, if DOJ doesn't investigate Trump/Eastman, he should resign, along with Alvin Bragg.
