Glenn Grothman Doubles Down on Refusal to Punish Russia for Its Slaughter in Ukraine

It was only a week ago that US Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Glenbeulah) was part of a small group of lawmakers who voted against a bill to ban imports of oil from Russia as punishment for its invasion of Ukraine. On Thursday, Grothman was part of an even smaller group of right-wing Republicans—only eight who voted against a bill to remove Russia's "Most Favored Nation" trade status.
The other "no" votes make up a who's who of the congressional fringe: Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Chip Roy of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Dan Bishop of North Carolina, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky.
While Grothman hasn't commented, others in the group cited concerns about the power such a bill would give to President Joe Biden—though it's far from certain that their position is based on executive authority alone and would be the same if former President Donald Trump were the one receiving more power.
