Wisconsin Supreme Court strikes down Tony Evers' stay-at-home order that closed businesses, schools to limit spread of coronavirusMADISON - The Wisconsin Supreme Court has struck down Gov. Tony Evers' order shutting down daily life to limit the spread of coronavirus marking the first time a statewide order of its kind has been knocked down by a court of last resort.
The state's highest court, which is controlled by conservatives, sided with Republican lawmakers Wednesday in a decision that curbed the Evers administration's power to act unilaterally during public health emergencies.
The 4-3 decision was written by four of the courts conservatives Chief Justice Patience Roggensack and Justices Rebecca Bradley, Daniel Kelly and Annette Ziegler.
The courts fifth conservative, Brian Hagedorn, wrote a dissent joined by the courts two liberals, Ann Walsh Bradley and Rebecca Dallet.

(7,604 posts)Death for thousands. Needless death. Cheeseheads will love this shit show.
Something tells me that this decision will NOT make things better in Wisconsin. Infections will skyrocket, so will deaths, and the health care system will hemorrhage. Have fun, folks. Blame it on Republicans on the Court.

The repubs of WI are murderous, cartoonishly-evil, charicatures Of humans.
The gop legislature knows the sup. court will rubber stamp any suit they bring so theyre completely shameless. Its heartbreaking.

(1,922 posts)Her biggest concern is losing the little bit of unemployment she gets. Some of her friends have gotten nothing so far, and she has seen nothing of the extra 600.00/month. If they are forced open, no UI at all. I was feeling pretty good about the state with testing for covid available for all, and then these asshats do this. I will be in the phone again tomorrow. I am so tired of them all.

Do businesses have to reopen, even if they aren't ready?
What happens when we get a spike of new infections in June?

(23,738 posts)I don't see that changing at this point.
There is supposed to be about another month of public school this year. Dane county has it's own SafeAtHome order, but not sure what the rest of the state is going to do.
And I'm not sure that the Republican legislature won't try to force both Dane County and UW System to go back early, regardless of what the UW System, and local school boards, want to do.
This is all just pretty fucked up.
