UMWA to host annual Labor Day Celebration in Racine, West Virginia Sept. 1

United Mine Workers of America will feature food, entertainment and presentations by political and labor leaders at its 76th annual Labor Day Celebration in Boone County Sept. 1.

The festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. at John Slack Memorial Park in Racine on Monday. There will be a pig roast at noon, and entertainers including Elaine Purkey, Abby Bolton and One Eyed Jack will perform throughout the day.

UMWA International President Cecil E. Roberts will speak at 1 p.m., followed by West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va. Other speakers will include State Treasurer John Perdue, West Virginia AFL-CIO President Kenny Perdue, Boone County Commission Chairman Eddie Hendricks, and Communications Workers of America International Representative Elaine Harris.
