Possible DOGE visit to Parkersburg (WV) has people talking

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Mayor Tom Joyce says he’s heard nothing about any intentions the Elon Musk group DOGE may have to change the operations at the Bureau of Fiscal Service in downtown Parkersburg.

Reports have indicated that representatives of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will visit this week. Musk and DOGE after been making cuts in federal spending under the authority of President Donald Trump.

Joyce said he spoke with U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s office Monday about the possible visit.

“The communication was that it’s not uncommon for folks to come in and review the system that they use for remuneration for these federal public dollars,” Joyce told MetroNews, adding he’s heard nothing about anyone wanting to close the operation.

Doing so will give him one more back door to accessing and manipulating government records and payments.

How nice of the mayor to say that it is routine for outside parties to visit the facility and observe its operations.

PARKERSBURG – A protest over a reported visit by members of the Department of Government Efficiency to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service offices in Parkersburg is underway despite snow and cold temperatures.

Well over 100 people gathered in Bicentennial Park not far from the Fiscal Service office off Market Street beside the Wood County Courthouse. From there they walked to the office.

The ACLU of West Virginia organized the peaceful protest in opposition to representatives of DOGE, the initiative overseen by President Donald Trump’s adviser Elon Musk to find and eliminate wasteful government spending.

National media reports indicate the DOGE representatives were coming to Parkersburg to access a central government accounting system.

In the article, someone is quoted as saying the number is closer to 80. This is the story I read. https://www.wtap.com/2025/02/21/probationary-employees-laid-off-bureau-fiscal-service-parkersburg/

I have a friend who has worked there for decades. They are absolutely worried about losing theier job.
