Spokane County commissioner (R) will not seek re-election, leaving ideological balance up for grabs

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Spokane County Commissioner Mary Brookes announced she would not seek re-election, a decision which leaves the Board's ideological balance up for grabs in the next election.

Mary Brooks, whose previous name was Mary Kuney, is one of the three Republicans on the five-member Spokane County Board of Commissioners.

However, she occasionally received criticism for voting alongside Democrats from her fellow board Republicans, Al French and Josh Kerns.

Brooks served as Chair of the Board for five consecutive years, leading the Commissioners while also representing her home district, district 4.
