King County Councilmember Jorge L. Barn launches reelection campaign with broad community support
King County Councilmember Jorge L. Barón announced this week that he is seeking a second term representing the 4th District, with a reelection bid built around public safety, housing stability, healthcare access, and the future of transit as the countys public services face rising demand and fiscal pressure.
The 4th District spans northwestern Seattle and nearby communities, from dense urban neighborhoods to suburban areas that rely heavily on county services. Those systems include courts and public defense, public health, housing programs, and King County Metro, all of which Barón says are entering a period of sustained strain.
Barón was elected in 2023 and took office in January 2024. In his first term, he has served as chair of the Law and Justice Committee, vice chair of the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee, and council vice chair. He said those roles have positioned him to take on complex, systemic challenges.
Community safety is at the center of his campaign. Barón has pointed to mounting caseloads in the countys criminal and civil legal systems, alongside new public defense requirements stemming from Washington Supreme Court decisions. Those changes, he said, will significantly increase costs across the system.
