Sheriff, council member elected to lead Snohomish justice council

EVERETT — Snohomish County Law & Justice Council announced Wednesday that it had unanimously elected Snohomish County Sheriff Susanna Johnson and reelected District 2 council member Megan Dunn as its co-chairs.

The council, which includes local officials and community representatives, advises the County Council on public safety, criminal justice and legal services.

In recent years, the council revised its membership model to allow community members, rather than only county employees or city representatives, to serve. That shift has strengthened the council’s connection to the public, which benefits policymaking, according to Paula Rhyne, Dunn’s legislative assistant.

“The intent was to include community voices to ensure the law and justice system works for everyone,” Rhyne said. “Representatives from organizations that support marginalized communities are particularly helpful in making sure those voices are heard and represented.”
