Puyallup Tribe, NW Seaport Alliance plan new terminal in Tacoma

The Puyallup Tribe and Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reached an agreement Monday to construct a new pier on the East Blair Waterway in Tacoma.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the tribe will fund, construct and own the new pier, which will be located on 22 acres of its property near 2940 E. Alexander Ave. The tribe will also own all additional acreage, which will be used for maintenance, repair and replacement of the new pier's facilities.

Anticipated construction costs and the target completion date for the pier, called Puyallup Tribal Terminal, were not shared.

The partnership has been a long time in the making, Puyallup Tribe Chairman Bill Sterud said during a news conference Monday.
