South Lake Union streetcar survives, for now

Around the time the Seattle City Council was voting Friday on whether to retire the South Lake Union streetcar, Mayor Bruce Harrell said in an interview he will ask the Department of Transportation for several alternatives to the 1.3-mile line.

The select budget committee voted 5-3 against Saka's budget amendment, putting the issue to rest at least temporarily.

"I would agree with Councilmember Saka that it really warrants a change because the ridership is not there," Harrell said, adding it's necessary to understand why.

Is it work from home, or "was the streetcar just not the best transit option to begin with?" Harrell said.
