Democratic Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck leads Republican challenger Dan Matthews by twelve points
In 2020, United States Representative Denny Heck made the jump from the federal government back to the state government, winning a four-year term to succeed Cyrus Habib as Washingtons Lieutenant Governor. Observers across the political spectrum agree that Heck has excelled in that role. Hes now seeking reelection to another term.
NPIs polling suggests hell get it.
Close to a majority of voters surveyed last week by Public Policy Polling for NPI 47% said theyre voting for Heck this year. Another 35% said they were voting for Hecks Republican challenger Dan Matthews. An additional 18% were not sure.
Typically, for lower-profile down ballot races (anything thats not President, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, or Governor), we see a higher percentage of not sure voters in our polling. Thats the case here. In the actual election, Heck may land somewhere in the high fifties, as Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti and Auditor Pat McCarthy did in the Top Two election facing one Republican opponent each. (There was no one to be eliminated in those races in August because only two candidates filed.)
