Related: About this forumMaria Cantwell coasts towards another easy win for reelection to the U.S. Senate with fifteen point October lead over
Raul GarciaThe Democratic Partys majority in the United States stands on a knifes edge this year, with the party mostly playing defense in tough races scattered across the country and hoping for an unlikely pickup in either Texas, Florida, or both. As Democrats battle to fend off Mitch McConnells Republicans, its no doubt a comfort for party leaders and strategists to know that Washingtons U.S. Senate race is as about as quiet as it gets.
Low-key, sleepy, muted pick your favorite descriptor.
Two years ago, Republicans pulled out all of the stops to go after Patty Murray, funneling millions into Tiffany Smileys campaign and paying for garbage polls that suggested Smiley was on the verge of toppling Murray when she wasnt. Murray rolled to reelection in a landslide, leaving some Republicans completely dumbfounded.
Smileys blowout defeat in 2022 may well have discouraged national Republicans from targeting any of Washingtons statewide races this year. The party seems totally disinterested in Cantwells challenger Raul Garcia, while the Republican Governors Association has failed to open its wallet to assist Dave Reichert in assailing Bob Ferguson.

(68,327 posts)2. She's a Democrat.
She came into office as a business-friendly, left-leaning centrist, or at least she was viewed that way. But she is reliably progressive, and although not as outspoken in her liberal advocacy as my lady "Fighting Patty" Murray, she has worked tirelessly on civil rights legislation, legislation designed to combat hate crimes, she's huge on Emily's List, is a strong supporter of green energy initiatives, and is solidly in the corner of working people and working families.
I gave her my vote unreservedly this year, just as I have every six years since 2000.
Go, Senator Cantwell!

(2,586 posts)3. Haven't seen a commercial for Garcia
And only a couple for Cantwell.
I wonder if Cantwell is sending the funds she's not using to other democrats. Is that even legal?
