Amtrak selects contractor for $300 million Seattle rail yard project

Amtrak has selected PCL Construction Services to complete a $300 million upgrade to its maintenance facility in Seattle's Sodo area. The project will enable Amtrak to support its new, more efficient fleet of Amtrak Airo trains, among other improvements.

All construction will take place within the King Street Coach Yard's existing footprint at 187 S. Holgate St., around a mile south of King Street Station.

The project includes the development of a new two-bay maintenance and inspection facility and a new service and cleaning bay. In addition, existing facilities will be relocated, utilities will be upgraded and more storage space will be added.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025 and will continue into 2027. The new Amtrak Airo trains are slated to enter into service in 2026.
