Amazon CEO calls workers back to the office 5 days a week

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is calling workers back to the office five days per week, per a memo sent to company employees Monday. The change, from three days a week, is effective Jan. 2.

"When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant," Jassy wrote. "If anything, the last 15 months we’ve been back in the office at least three days a week has strengthened our conviction about the benefits."

Rumors of the Seattle-based tech giant's return to full-time in-office work have swirled for the last year.

January's transition could prove to be a turning point in downtown's recovery, which has seen daily office worker volumes linger at about 60% of their pre-Covid benchmarks, according to the Downtown Seattle Association.
