Bob Ferguson shines, Dave Reichert struggles in first 2024 Washington gubernatorial debate
Last night, shortly following the conclusion of the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump (if that exchange can even be called a debate), gubernatorial finalists Bob Ferguson and Dave Reichert squared off in their first televised debate, sponsored by KING5, KREM2, The Seattle Times, and El Sol de Yakima.
The hourlong debate covered a range of important topics, from reproductive rights to gun responsibility and public finance, but perhaps the most lively segment was an early and feisty exchange between the candidates over Dave Reicherts previously acknowledged support of Trump, brought to light by Democratic audio recordings of Reichert speaking to Republican groups behind closed doors.
Ferguson sought to use Trump as a cudgel, mirroring the successful Democratic strategy Democrats used in the 2022 midterms, while Reichert tried to back away from his pro-Trump comments. Reichert even told the audience at home that he had an announcement to make: hes not going to be voting for Donald Trump after all!
Ferguson wasnt having it.
