REI to relocate Alderwood mall store to larger space elsewhere

REI Co-op is leaving the Alderwood mall in Lynnwood after more than 20 years, but it isn't going far.

The Seattle-area-based outdoor retailer is moving its store to a larger space at the nearby Alderwood Parkway shopping center, per a lease filed with the Snohomish County Auditor's Office.

An REI spokesperson confirmed the move with the Business Journal, but did not indicate when that transition is expected to take place. Additionally, it's unclear how many employees will be affected.

The co-op opened at the Alderwood mall in 2004, moving from its prior location on 196th Street Southwest. The 22,500-square-foot store anchors a space near the mall's Nordstrom store. In addition to carrying outdoor apparel and equipment, the REI store features a rock-climbing wall.

The store on 196th was larger. Don't know why they moved to Alderwood.
