In Central WA, 4th District race heats up in conservative showdown
Most election analysts expect Washingtons 4th Congressional District to remain Republican come November.
Thats usually good news for a candidate like U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse, an experienced incumbent hes been in Congress since 2015 with a sizable chest of political contributions.
But as one of the two House Republicans still in Congress who voted to impeach President Donald Trump following the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, reelection to a sixth term isnt a given.
Three years later, Trump is the Republican presidential candidate and remains at the center of a party thats moved further right, even in Washington state.
Voters in Central Washington are deciding this election whether to stick with Newhouse as they have in the last five elections or shift to one of the two formidable challengers from his party who argue theyll better represent the district in an anticipated second Trump presidential term.
