Republican base voters in Washington hold white Christian nationalist views that conflict with the values of their neigh

It might seem like ancient history now, but there was once an era in Washington State politics when both the Democratic and Republican parties had progressive wings and were very competitive electorally. The Washington State Republican Party in past decades was known for putting up candidates like Dan Evans, John Spellman, Joel Pritchard, Ralph Munro, and Louise Miller — reasonable, thoughtful people who espoused positions that were compatible with the values Washington was founded upon and demonstrated a commitment to good governance and ethical leadership.

Not anymore.

The Washington State Republican Party of today is a cult chapter that idolizes Donald Trump, as is evident from his video that Seattle Times reporter Jim Brunner recorded of the state’s 2024 RNC delegates singing “the Trump song” in Milwaukee:

Republicans nominated Trump for the presidency of the United States for the third consecutive cycle earlier this week, and he will accept that nomination tonight onstage in Milwaukee. When he does, he will do so with a roar of approval of the forty-three delegates from Washington State, who represent a Republican presidential primary electorate that a few months ago overwhelmingly backed Trump over Nikki Haley and four other withdrawn challengers who have since endorsed his effort to regain power.
