Seattle Housing Authority acquires former Post-Intelligencer building
The Seattle Housing Authority is the new owner of the building that the Seattle Post-Intelligencer occupied for decades.
SHA announced the acquisition of the headquarters building on Wednesday, and public records show the authority paid $39.5 million, or around $900,000 less than what Credit Suisse Group paid for the waterfront property eight years ago.
SHA Executive Director Rod Brandon said in a news release said the authority bought the building for "well below (the value) other buildings on the market," adding, "Its a fiscally prudent decision that allows us to invest substantially more money in helping stably house more people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Seattle.
SHA will save an estimated $2.5 million annual rent it had paid for its former headquarters at 190 Queen Anne Ave. N., Brandon said. The authority operated there for 12 years until it moved in November to the former P-I building at 101 Elliott Ave. W.
