Worker traffic is up in downtown Seattle, but full recovery remains elusive

About 80,000 people a day worked in downtown Seattle last year, continuing an upward trend since the Covid-19 pandemic sent office workers home four years ago.

The figure is a 33% increase from 2022, according to the Downtown Seattle Association, which uses cellphone data collected by Placer.ai to count downtown visits.

The business group highlighted its findings Thursday at its annual State of Downtown event at the Seattle Convention Center.

The jump in foot traffic still falls well short a full recovery. Downtown office worker traffic remains at only around 50% of pre-pandemic levels, DSA's data shows.
