Stray cats overcrowd Everett's animal shelter

EVERETT — In October, you can adopt your new furry friend from the Everett Animal Shelter at a discount.

The discount comes after a spike in stray animals were brought into the shelter. On Sept. 21, the shelter announced they were at cat-pacity — er, capacity — with cats.

One pet parent, Elli Case, adopted her cat Junebug from the shelter last week. She started as a nervous cat who would hiss at people nearby, Case said.

Since then, Case has enjoyed seeing Junebug “come out of her shell,” and get more and more used to other people.

but our fosters are stepping up. I haven't been in since last Tuesday (thanks, Covid!) but we had a lot of new ones then. I was thinking of adopting another couple of barn cats as Josie is so fat and lazy I don't see how she hunts at all and I rarely see Meggie. Today some boy showed up but I ran him off--a big hairy tuxie that is most definitely not mine and not native to this property. He also looks pretty well fed so I think he was just sponging. Meggie's afraid of him but she's afraid of everyone.
