New fire east of Darrington closes stretch of rural road

DARRINGTON — Suiattle River Road was closed just beyond the 6-mile mark up the road as fire crews gained ground Wednesday on a small fire northeast of Darrington.

The Tenas Creek Fire has been burning since late last week and has consumed 38 acres. The fire was 90% contained Wednesday morning and fully lined, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Three engines were still on scene and no structures had burned or were threatened. There was also no damage to any cultural resources.

Earlier this summer, the Huckleberry Flats burned 134 acres in the same area.

A popular area, the rough road is a primary route to many hikes in the Glacier Peak Wilderness, including a stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail.
