Divers inspect Walla Walla ferry after it ran aground over the weekend

New information from Washington State Ferries (WSF) indicates there was no serious damage to the hull of the M/V Walla Walla that ran aground near Bainbridge Island over the weekend.

WSF spokesperson Ian Sterling said divers inspected the hull after the incident Saturday in Rich Passage, just off the south end of Bainbridge Island. Divers also inspected the ship’s propeller, Sterling said.

The ferry can hold 2,000 passengers and 188 vehicles. Sterling told KOMO News there were 175 vehicles onboard and about 600 passengers on Saturday afternoon.

Sterling said the next step will be a full inspection of the hull from inside the vessel, which could show damage not seen by the divers.
