Inslee calls South Park encampment 'scourge on our state' during tour of cleanup

Gov. Jay Inslee visited the site where crews are working to clear out what remains of a sprawling homeless encampment in Seattle's South Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Inslee has pledged the state is doing 'everything humanly possible' to get people out of homeless encampments and into housing.

"This is a scourge on our state, we should never allow this. These encampments, there is no excuse," Inslee said.

Work began at the South Park site on Monday. The encampment stretched underneath the 1st Avenue South Bridge along SW Michigan Street and had been there in some form for at least two years.

It's a problem everywhere in all States....creative solutions needed, not criminalizing the reality of some of our population's lives.
