Seattle residents can now support their own professional cricket team.
On Thursday, investors announced the new U.S. professional cricket league, Major League Cricket, will launch this summer with the Seattle Orcas being one of six teams to compete in the league. Microsoft Corp. CEO Satya Nadella is one of multiple investors in Seattle's team, as is Soma Somasegar, managing director at Seattle-based Madrona Venture Group.
We are super excited to bring world class cricket to the Pacific Northwest, which has a vibrant and passionate community of cricket and sports fans. The Orcas name and the teams colors pay tribute to our local community that has helped build that spirit of support, Somasegar said in a release.
The other investors in the Seattle Orcas are Icertis co-founder and CEO Samir Bodas, GreatPoint Ventures Managing Partner Ashok Krishnamurthi and former Microsoft and Avalara executive Sanjay Parthasarathy.

Don't believe I know anyone native born who's into cricket. But if they can be successful with a pro team more power to them.

(67,643 posts)I watched matches all the time on European television while I was stationed in Germany.
I had a buddy from the BVI, and another from Grenada, and they were huge cricket enthusiasts. We liked to hang out and talk test matches.
I wonder where the Orcas are going to play.

I watched a match when I was TDY in Saudi Arabia in the late 70s. Took me a while to figure it out.
