Seattle voters say homelessness top public safety issue, city on wrong track
Seattle voters believe the City is on the wrong track, and homelessness is the biggest public safety threat, according to a new poll.
EMC Research polled 500 likely voters in January, on behalf of the Seattle Chamber and Downtown Seattle Association, and asked them about their top safety concerns. A little more than half (52%) said homelessness was their top concern. Just under a quarter (23%) said crime was their top safety concern and 19% of those polled were concerned about drugs.
The same poll also strongly suggested broad support for Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, but not the Seattle City Council. Of those polled, 67% gave Harrell a favorable rating.
Seattle Police Officers had a 62% favorable rating and the Seattle Police Department (SPD) had a 54% favorable rating. Slightly more than half (60%) of the respondents also said that Seattle was on the wrong track, but that is a vast improvement from March 2022 when 76% of likely voters said it was headed in the wrong direction.
