Violent crime hit a 15-year high in Seattle last year

Overall crime climbed 4% in 2022 in Seattle, but homicides increased by 24% from the previous year, according to statistics the Police Department released Monday.

The 52 homicides were the second-highest total recorded after 53 in 2020. This put the violent crime rate at a 15-year high, according to the department, which said "shots fired" events hit an all-time high.

The report includes some good news with overall crime trending down in the last five months of the year, when police fielded 14,547 reports, down 30% from the same period in 2021.

In addition, violent crime in downtown Seattle (Belltown, the downtown commercial core and Pioneer Square) declined by 8.6%, though property crimes rose 3.5%.

the problem is the homeless, or mental illness, or video games, but not guns.

When you hear "shots fired" in a video game, the gamers high-five and maybe order another pizza. Nobody dies.
