I voted this morning.

I live in Alexandria. I had applied, by mail, for an absentee ballot two weeks ago today. I received my absentee ballot, by mail, one week ago today.

I was sitting around this morning, when it occurred to me that the registrar's office was open today. It is open every Saturday in October. So, just after 8:00, I took my unopened envelope down to the registrar's office.

There wasn't anyone in line. The people outside in favor of Amendment 1 were still setting up their stand.

I surrendered my absentee ballot. Other people there were doing that too. I walked in, provided my ID, got a "normal" ballot, filled in the blanks, and turned it in. It scanned without error. I got my sticker. I am a voter.

On one hand, I wanted to give the money to the USPS, but on the other hand, I didn't want my ballot to disappear in the mail. Also, I know that my ballot has been accepted. Had I made a mistake on a ballot that I mailed in, I don't think there would have been anyway for me to have been notified. By voting in person, I no longer have either of those concerns.

I had intended to vote for Biden. Now, I'm a tough guy, a big, tough guy, like a steelworker. I've never cried, not even when I was a baby. But when I thought about all the suffering Glorious Leader has gone through in the last two day, I broke into tears. The image of Glorious Leader appeared before me, and I said, "Sir, thank you for all the sacrifices you have made. You could have stayed a happy multi-billionaire, but, no, you gave it all up, just for us. Thank you for your leadership, sir!" And then, wiping away my tears, I....

For the record. I voted "no" on Amendment 1 and "yes" on Amendment 2. I had been in favor of Amendment 1 until I followed the links provided here a few days ago. Thanks for that. I think Amendment 2 is going to pass no matter how I voted on it.

How a yes vote on Virginia Constitutional Amendment 2 will impact veterans

According to current Virginia law, residents pay two main types of property taxes: one on their home and one on their vehicle. The tax exemption up for a vote would apply to vehicles. If passed, Virginia Constitutional Amendment 2 would provide a tax exemption for disabled veterans receiving 100% disability income.

"It covers [eligible recipients] the first vehicle regardless of that vehicle been modified or not," says tax expert Richard Auxier. "They didn't want to go through a process of having to individually approve, people, to pass in order to in order to be able to get the tax."

Auxier argues that this proposed amendment creates the opportunity inequities to be embedded in the constitution.

"[Eligible veteran] receive this benefit, regardless of how much they're earning," says Auxier. "You could have two neighbors: one neighbor is a veteran who's currently working a new job that pays $200,000 a year. And next door is your neighbor who's a teacher who gets paid $50,000 a year. And so the question isn't, you know, do you want to help veterans? It is … do you think the $200,000 veteran deserves the tax break, but the $50,000 teacher doesn't?

If this passes, Auxier says the next question would naturally be … how are they going to replace the tax revenue that they are losing from passes this amendment?

"There's often really good reasons why you would want to remove tax like we have benefits for seniors and lower-income people," says Auxier.

"We have business tax credits and tax incentives for businesses because we think it's important to try to get them to locate here and we're willing to make that trade-off. And so our voters, is this the trade-off that voters want to make? And if they make this one, will that make them think about other trade-offs?"

3. I called an old friend last night. He went in and voted in person on Tuesday.

4. Mrs Best and I early voted today in Stafford County

Went to the early voting site at Stafford Regional Airport. Virginia uses paper ballots so there is a paper trail. They were also accepting mail-in ballots at a drive thru. We were going to do mail-in until Dejoyless started effin up the USPS.
