Vice presidential candidate JD Vance to speak at Radford University rally

RADFORD, Va. (WSET) —
Only a week after former President Donald Trump chose Senator JD Vance to run alongside him for the vice presidency, Vance is speaking at a rally at Radford University.

According to a letter sent out to Radford students, the Trump campaign rented out the Dedmon Center for the event, set for July 22. Vice President for Student Affairs Susan Trageser said in the letter that the rally is expected to run from 6-7:30 p.m.

Trageser was careful to make clear in the letter to Radford students that the school is not using the event as an endorsement of some kind.

"The university is not an official host or sponsor of the vice-presidential rally and does not otherwise endorse any political candidates, their positions or opinions," she said.

The campus will be full of progressives this week With the tensions from the last week, I could see some potential trouble.

If the word SUUSI doesn’t mean anything to you, look it up. It is the annual summer gathering of Unitarian Universalists who are exactly the kind of people to cancel events and pour all of their attention into protesting this visit. Not sure what the current numbers are but pre-Covid was over 1200 on campus

It just feels like a volatile time right now. With all the talk of lax security for trump I suspect there will be meal team 6 types who decide they need to take security into their own hands.

That is the derogatory term often used to describe the gun toting militia types who pretend to be quasi-military as a they run around the woods in store bought camo and internet tactical gear.

It is a riff on Seal Team 6 but for a bunch amateurs who are not in any real fighting condition.

I just think more idiots with guns are going to show up at these things.
