Manassas man killed by ‘neglectful discharge’ of handgun, suspect charged with manslaughter

A man in Prince William County is facing involuntary manslaughter charges after a handgun was “neglectfully discharged” at a private home in Manassas, according to police.

Early Saturday evening, 21-year-old Reynaldo Jesus Villalobos Hernandez was passing around a handgun with two acquaintances at a home in the 8300 block of Scotland Loop, when one of his acquaintances “neglectfully discharged the handgun,” striking Hernandez in the chest, officials said in a news release.

Officers responding to the shooting arrived at the scene around 6:26 p.m. and provided first aid to the victim before he was transported to the hospital. He died a short time later, according to police. No other injuries were reported.

Police have identified 27-year-old Daniel Villalobos Marquez of Manassas as the suspect in the shooting. Marquez was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter on Sunday. He is currently being held without bond.

1. Alcohol, passing around a loaded handgun, what were the odds. Pulled the clip but didn't ...

... clear the chamber? Had this happen, less the alcohol, at a local church. The guy with the firearm was a designated "protector" and the guy he was showing off to pulled the trigger, fired through the pew and just missed a little old lady.

4. How about mandatory gun safety classes with the gun equivilent of "Signal 30" movies included.

Met an old guy at a flea mark about 30 years ago. Old guy with a cast on his left hand, so I asked about it. Said he shot himself accidentally while cleaning his handgun. Then he told me had been a NRA safety instructor for 30 years.

6. When the experts fuck up occasionally, it only shows how important gun training is. It's almost to..

... the point it should be mandatory in schools. Just about every kid these days are exposed to firearms one way or another from someone showing off and handing it to someone, to a kid coming across one some untrained adult left poorly hidden or under a sofa cushion loaded and chambered.

I had NRA training at 14 and have yet to try to clean a loaded weapon. That old "cleaning a loaded gun" saw is used to cover up a lot of other reasons, usually involving alcohol or yee hawing with a couple of friends in the basement or backyard.

I'd go further than than safety locks, a minimum would be the double safety, as on an APC 1911. But what I want is a safety that only allows one person to fire the weapon, like a chip with a ring that has a chip.

I'm not arguing with you, I just think your good idea benefits from some expansion.
