Youngkin signs school mask-mandate ban into law

Calling it “a win for all Virginians,” Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Wednesday signed into law a long-promised ban on mask mandates in the commonwealth’s schools.

The bill, SB739, allows parents to “elect for [their] child to not wear a mask while on school property,” regardless of any COVID-19 protection mandates passed by local school boards or issued by state agencies.

The bill passed the Virginia Senate on a bipartisan 21-19 vote last week and a party-line 52-48 vote in the House on Monday.

Under regular rules, the bill wouldn’t go into effect until July 1, but the General Assembly passed a Youngkin amendment that lets the law go into effect immediately, and gives school districts until March 1 to comply.

Fatigue by Dems of not just "too hard to get to the polls, it's not a presidential election"

Then some Dems in the General Assembly being worn down by constituents saying masks interfered with school learning.

I HOPE we are NOT back to virtual learning by spring equinox.

Wear your mask

Wearing a mask that covers your mouth and nose can prevent those who have COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others. Recent evidence suggests that masks may even benefit the wearer, offering some level of protection against infections.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone age 2 years and older wear masks in public settings and around people who don’t live in the same household—when you can’t stay 6 feet apart from others.

Masks should be made of two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric and fit snugly on your face. “A quick and easy test is to hold your mask up to the light. If light passes through, it’s too thin,” Dr. Meyer says. “Masks only work when they cover the nose and mouth because that is where infected droplets are expelled and because the virus infects people through the mucous membranes in their nose and throat.”

Look I don't like wearing them either but they work.
