73-Year-Old Falls Church Man Dies After Shooting at ATM: Police
The man who killed Nelson Alexander Sr. at an ATM on Annandale Road is "Fairfax County's public enemy number one," police said Saturday.

FALLS CHURCH, VA A 73-year-old man who was shot in the chest Wednesday morning at an ATM on Annandale Road in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County died Saturday at an area hospital, the police said.
Nelson Alexander Sr. of Falls Church was on his way to work when he stopped at an ATM in the 2900 block of Annandale Road at 5:20 a.m.
As he was standing in front of the ATM, Alexander was approached by a man wearing a mask and carrying a gun. The man was seen on surveillance footage threatening Alexander and making demands before shooting him, the police said.
Alexander was found at 6:14 a.m. Wednesday by a passing bicyclist. Once rescue personnel and police arrived on the scene, he was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The police said that Alexander died at 12:51 p.m. on Saturday. In its announcement that Alexander had died, the FCPD said that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of Alexander's death.

Based on surveillance footage of the shooting recovered from the bank, police described the suspect as a young Black man, with a slim build, who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants, light-colored backpack, white shoes with black laces and a black face covering

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (7News) A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that would help solve the murder of 73-year-old Nelson Alexander, who was shot and killed outside a Falls Church ATM.
"ATF is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual responsible for the shooting death of Mr. Alexander. In addition to the reward offer, we have made all of our investigative analytical and laboratory resources available to assist in this investigation," ATF Special Agent in Charge Charlie J. Patterson said.
Fairfax County Police and the ATF released new surveillance videos and images of the suspect and two acquaintances during a press conference Friday afternoon. They say the video is from 1:20 a.m. on the morning of Oct. 20, 2021, hours before the shooting.
