Republican Gov Phil Scott has a big poll advantage

despite the overwhelming unpopularity of Trump (59% disapproval). Many Vermonters still in the 'unsure' column:

If the election for Vermont’s Governor were held today, would you vote for...

42% Republican Phil Scott
28% Democrat Christine Hallquist
1% Independent Trevor Barlow
1% Independent Cris Ericson
1% Independent Charles Laramie
1% Liberty Union candidate Emily Peyton
0% Earth Rights candidate Stephen Marx
3% None/Write in/Other
22% Not sure/No opinion

This doesn't surprise me in the least.

In 2006 Vermonters elected Jim Douglas (Republican) has their governor the same year they sent Bernie Sanders to the Senate.

Douglas won again in 2008 despite Barack Obama winning the state by a huge margin.
