Bernie Sanders is more than a Vermont senator. Do Vermonters mind?

Bernie Sanders is a politician tending two audiences — his unflaggingly loyal base in Vermont, and voters across the country.

The upcoming U.S. Senate election will demonstrate how well Sanders can keep both of those plates spinning.

Sanders seeking re-election

The 76-year-old independent senator is seeking a third term representing Vermont while publicly mulling another run for the presidency in 2020.

"I'm just curious to see how he pitches his campaign, whether it is predominantly centered on representing Vermont," said Matthew Dickinson, a Middlebury College political science professor, "or it's viewed as implicitly an opening salvo in his bid for the 2020 Democratic nomination."

while running for President? I would not like that if I was a constituent. And he is still asking for contributions? Why? He has plenty of money.

And I would like to see his tax returns. If he runs for President, this is a must!

Me.

1000%. I don't trust him when it comes to money and truth because he, like Comrade Trump, won't ante up those tax returns. And missing 89% of the vote...can you imagine how much grief a Dem would get for that?

He could've stayed with the party since 2016. He chose not to. Personally, I'm holding him to that decision.

But he'll get lots of money from outside VT for his re-election campaign, especially from those who want him to run for POTUS in 2020.
