Former State Rep. Candidate Denies Holiday Felony

A former candidate for state representative has been charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and felony impeding a police officer following an incident outside his St. Johnsbury home last week.

Philip L. Aldridge, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charges in Caledonia Superior Court Tuesday and was released on the conditions that he not buy, have or drink alcoholic beverages and that he not abuse or harass his girlfriend, Nicole Daigneault, 36.

Aldridge is accused of slapping Daigneault and yelling at her outside their apartment on Pearl Street at 8:13 p.m. on Dec. 23. Aldridge is also accused of pushing St. Johnsbury Police Ofc. Michael Fuller in an attempt to get around him to where Daigneault was being detained.

Aldridge ran as an independent candidate for one of two Caledonia-3 House seats in the November election. He lost to incumbent winners Scott Beck and Janssen Willhoit.
