Pipeline protesters arrested at TD Bank

MONTPELIER — Several people were arrested for unlawful trespass Monday at the TD Bank in Montpelier, which closed down in the afternoon, as protesters outside the bank blocked access to customers because of its involvement in financing pipelines and fracking.

The group of protesters were celebrating a decision announced Sunday by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to deny easements needed for the pipeline to run under a section of the Missouri River near the drinking water supply for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The Army Corps of Engineers is seeking an alternative path, which for now, has delayed completion of the 1,170-mile pipeline.

But the group of about 100 people also descended on the TD Bank branch in downtown Montpelier Monday morning to share their displeasure with the bank.
