Spouse has a potential job offer in Rutland, VT

We currently live in TX, and we have no monetary NEED for this job, but we both have a strong desire to live elsewhere for a while...get away from these total assholes here for a while.

So...whats the Rutland area like? We both like hiking, car camping, etc. and the area looks great for that kind of stuff.

Burlington is a genuine, nice, city, couple of colleges overlooking very long Lake Champlain. They don't get snow like they used to.

and still have family there. It's beautiful and is surrounded by (small) mountains, rivers, and lakes. For VT, it's a bit purple-ish. There are marble quarries nearby and there were waves of European immigrants to work them. The most recent wave was from Italy and there are lots of good Italian restaurants. As others have said, it's a bit chilly in the winter.

Come to Vermont. Chances are, you won’t regret it.

During my hour-long outing today.... I drove an elderly neighbor to a local garage so she could pick up her car with the new snow tires. The mechanic told her he would deliver her old (still usable) summer tires after work because he didn’t want her to have to lift them.

Quick stop at our tiny village store. At the counter was a large donation jar near several paper hand-outs asking folks to be aware there is a family in town that has no vehicle now and needs help finding a car so the husband can keep working. The jar, for donations to help that family get a car, had cash in it. Cash, willingly given, in my small, poor town.

Next village over, I stopped at the Post Office. On a table in the entrance way was a basket. HELP YOURSELF...little candies, random knickknacks, things from nature, magazines, etc.

One hour, two tiny villages. Believe me....I could go out for an hour tomorrow, head in a different direction, come home and write something similar.

I'm a couple miles into NH. I think you'll find us "right neighborly"! Look around a bit for a place - neighbourhoods vary a good deal, a good real estate agent will know their locale. With Covid messing up the ski biz, you may find a sweet resort rental .

Small college in town.

Hiking? It’s the Green Mountain State.

Small towns to explore.

Manchester factory outlets to spend your $$$.

Good restaurants in town and in surrounding towns.

Do it.
