Vermont
Related: About this forumI'm currently looking to leave the gerrymandered state of NC
for something better for my sons who have learning disabilities (even though one will graduate from college this December and start looking for a job). I read somewhere where your state will be cutting such things. Should we still consider your state a possibility? I would like your opinion before proceeding on an investigation. Thanks.

(14,449 posts)Perfect state in America. Very progressive. Great schools! We tend to be in the top 5 overall and currently number 2. We care about environment. Housing is relatively affordable. Taxes aren't horrible for the services given. We would love you here!

(52,589 posts)Maryland and Washington state are the other two I'm looking at. Actually looking forward to staying near Annapolis while visiting since I love the water.

(52,589 posts)Maryland was going to be our first stop. Then Vermont. Then Washington State a little later (I have a cousin there). But currently a Maryland lean but like the Vermont progressive environment as well. But mostly, I'm looking for stability in law as it relates to citizens with disabilities.

(14,449 posts)Guarantee that Maryland will beat Vermont and Washington on services for special needs. We take that seriously. Vermont seems to take their ice cream seriously and Washington loves their daily rain storm and constant drizzle............see what I am doing????
You sound like my cousin in Washington and his wife . I do like what I've seen in Maryland and just need to talk to someone point blank. In Maryland, I would still be close enough to keep my house on a lake in NC and visit. And we do have some friends there. So it currently has a lot of points in this contest for the future.

(51,438 posts)West of the Cascades (think Seattle) it is progressive, and also pricey. East of the Cascades it's Northwest Alabama.
If I was going to move to Washington and money was a concern, I'd think hard about either Burien or Tukwila. They're super close to Seattle - jump on the Link Light Rail and you'll be in downtown Seattle in just minutes - but they're far enough away that houses are still reasonably priced.

(27,285 posts)From Michigan, depending on how the election goes. I love Michigan, but unless we get rid of Rick Snyder, and elect Gary Peters to Levin's seat, this state will be firmly in the Koch's hands.
My Dad's family is from Frostburg, and it looks like a really nice place.
Maryland also has a robust economy. We are electing our first African American Governor which is thrilling to say the least. Michigan I am sure is wonderful, but it is dying. You belong in Maryland.

(1 post)While I am not a Texas native, I am looking to leave this place, Vermont appears to be a wonderful place to live. I remember visiting Vermont, and Maine, with my parents when I was a youngster. The image of my family, and I, drawing real maple syrup for a Vermont maple tree and is burned into my memory. It was a beautiful experience.
My daughters are grown, and I want to live in a place where I can enjoy the personal things that make me happy: riding my bicycle, hiking and nature photography.
While I hear the job market is not great in Vermont I do have alot of skills. I worked as a newspaper reporter, and a substitute teacher. I have a BA in Mass Communications, and a provisional teaching certification from Texas.
My wife is a native Texan, and she loves Texas. Because I am not a native Texan I feel out of place here. It is hard to become part of a community here.
I would image that the environment is very important to many who live in Vermont. That is a good thing. I consider the environment a very important component in everyone's lives. I try to do my share for the environment. I recycle, and commute to work by bicycle.
In about six years, I will be retiring, and I hope to see my dream of moving, and living, in Vermont become reality.
