Park City opens applications to fill city council vacancy following mayoral election

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City residents can now apply to fill a vacancy on the Park City Council following the resignation of Councilmember Ryan Dickey, who won the recent mayoral election by seven votes. Applications open Friday, Dec. 19, and will be accepted through Monday, Jan. 5, at 5 p.m.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered Park City voters, have lived within the municipality for at least the past 12 consecutive months, and maintain a primary residence within city limits for the duration of the term.

After the application period closes, the city council will interview all qualified candidates during open, public meetings, according to city staff. A special public meeting is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2026, to conduct the interviews. If necessary, a second meeting may be held Jan. 13 to complete the process.

Following the interviews, the Park City Council will publicly appoint a candidate to serve the remainder of the vacant term, which runs through the first Monday in January 2028. The appointment may occur at the council’s regular meeting on Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will be held in City Council Chambers.
