Some of President Donald Trump's biggest supporters may end up bearing the brunt of damage from his new tariffs imposed on China, Canada and Mexico.
Axios reported Tuesday that out of all 50 states, Texas could be the hardest-hit state out of all the others if his tariffs end up resulting in higher prices for consumers. According to Tony Payan — who is the director of the Center for the U.S. and Mexico at the Baker Institute – the Lone Star State's deep connections to the global supply chain (especially Mexico) is the primary reason Texans will likely suffer the biggest economic hit.
Because Texas is the origin, destination or transit point of two-thirds of binational trade, clearly, Texas will be more affected than other states that are not as integrated," Payan told Axios. emphasis mine.
The Dallas Business Journal recently reported that Arlington, Texas Mayor Jim Ross, whose city has a General Motors plant that employs several thousand people, has been particularly vocal in his opposition to Trump's trade policy. is worried that the new higher cost of importing vehicles could mean that some of his constituents may lose their jobs.

With apologies to the actual humans that live in Texas, I hope Trump's policies stick it to his supporters until they are yelping.

(9,743 posts)This was as big a display of stupid in as voting for secession in the Civil War. Most of the counties that voted for Trump were rural counties heavily dependent on agriculture. Their avatar’s behavior is going to cost them bigly.
I suspect that some of them had great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers who warned them not to believe fast-talking New Yorkers trying to sell them a line of (excrement). They should have remembered before they cast their ballots. Clearly they didn’t.
I suspect that there’s going to be a lot of hurting in red counties for the next several years. My sympathy is limited: I didn’t ask to be placed in this hand-basket. They should have known better

(1,281 posts)Cutting (gutting) Medicaid alone will devastate many Trumpers.
So will Forestry Service reductions. Some small towns in East Texas are dependent on these jobs.
National Parks - article in S.A. newspaper about an hour long wait to get into one Big Bend entry. I can only imagine the wait at Padre Island National Seashore - Spring Break for colleges and universities begins next week. March 17 begins Spring Break for high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. The San Antonio Missions headquarters is to be closed. Yeah - let’s get rid of law enforcement, IT, and artifact archives.
In my little town of Selma, we have 4 new warehouses that are each larger than an IKEA!
If I were Mexico and Canada, I would laugh in Yambo’s face about renegotiating the tariff terms.
No Mexican beer, avocados and tomatoes es no bueno.
