Two cheers for Rafael Cruz, Ted Cruzs dad! Yes, I know that this sounds weird, especially coming from a Democrat posting on a Democratic forum, but hear me out.
Rafael Cruz senior might currently be a fiery evangelical and a member of the political far right. Thats what he is now, and I do not dispute that.
But in his youth, Rafael Cruz stood against Fulgencio Batista, the strongman who overthrew Cubas last democratically-elected government, and later against Fidel Castro, the man who instituted a Marxist dictatorship on the island.
Contrast this to Senator Ted. When the mob stormed the Capitol on January 6th, while Representative Alread was preparing to fight for his life and the US Constitution, Ted went and hid in a closet. Later, when the man who encouraged and helped organize the attack on the Capitol, Ted voted for acquittal, choosing to let the man who organize the attack unpunished.
Texans across the political spectrum should remember this before casting their ballots. Behavior like the instigators should be punished.
This should not be a partisan choice. Senators and other politicians who put their careers first and the Constitution second should be removed from office, regardless of party affiliation. Ted Cruz thinks that hell get a pass from his constituents. He should not.
Vote against Ted Cruz this year.

(8,330 posts)Political asylum in the US. One of those "evil" immigrants that Ted Cruz is constantly running his mouth about.
Regardless of what you think of his father, Ted Cruz is a disgusting human being. He is an embarrassment to not only Texas but to the US Senate.
His Dad is a religious nut, his son is a nasty person, and hopefully Colin Allred will replace him this election.

(9,568 posts)I see no reason to condemn all Republicans forever and aye.. While many have turned away from the light, others have listened to their consciences and their good sense and become democrats.
I am not going to dispense with using tisk, tisk, how sad that theyve fallen into error when making a point.
I would argue that Papi Cruz probably knew something in his youth that he has probably since forgottenthat democracies are fragile things and many have been overthrown by the corrup, the amoral, and the lawless.
