Midland County seeks election workers for Nov. 2024 general election
The Midland County Elections Office is seeking election workers for the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. Due to an increase in polling locations, from 21 to 23, the county estimates approximately 150 election workers are needed for Election Day.
According to the county's Elections Administrator Rosa Olgin, the need for poll workers can prove challenging.
"We typically need around 150 workers on election day, and that number can sometimes be hard to reach," she told the Reporter-Telegram. "We try to make sure that there is equal representation at all of the vote centers between the parties. We do need more Democratic workers, and we need bilingual workers. We also have a bilingual worker at all of our vote centers, and sometimes that gets a little bit hard to do."
While some poll workers volunteer for Election Day, others are compensated for their time. Election workers typically work a 13-hour day starting at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m., with additional tasks post-closing. Olgin said with this election cycle, pay rates for election workers have increased.
