The Republican Party of Texas is shaking in its boots. For decades, theyve relied on gerrymandered maps, voter suppression laws, and massive corporate donations to cling to power in a state thats becoming less and less like the GOP stronghold theyve painted it to be. Now, as demographic changes and progressive organizing ramp up, the GOP is pulling out all the stops to stop people from voting. From refusing to update election systems in Montgomery County to shutting down early voting sites on college campuses in Tarrant County, Republicans are terrified that if Texans actually vote, theyll lose.
And thats just the beginning. Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Bexar AND Travis counties for trying to register new voters. Meanwhile, in Dallas County, theyre trying to stop the houseless community from even having the chance to cast a ballot.
The message is clear: if youre likely to vote blue, Republicans dont want you voting at all. But this is Texas, and if history has taught us anything, its that when the people decide to make their voices heard, nothing can stop them.

But they did say if anyone reports threats of violence around elections, they stand ready to offer support.

Scotus has routinely stayed smackdowns of circuit court rulings if they are deciding issues close to an election.
They eventually go into effect, but after the election.

(17,983 posts)Here is how you can check your registration and registration deadline dates in your state:
FIRST:
Check registration deadlines in any state here:
https://www.usvotefoundation.org/state-election-dates-and-deadlines
THEN:
Check your registration (and let others know they can check theirs) at any of these sites:
https://iwillvote.com/
(Be sure to choose YOUR state)
https://www.vote.org/
https://vote.gov/
Check your voter registration often, especially if you live in a state where republicans have any access to voter rolls or can effect voter registrations in ANY way.
See ya in November!

(3,599 posts)I wasnt kidding. Even the republicans are worried about it. Im sure Ill have responses like we shouldnt waste money on it. I heard it in previous elections. So when is it worth it to try? Last election President Biden got 46.58% of the vote. 3.5% more and it would have tied. President Biden received 3.2% more than SOS Clinton. So yes I think its possible to pick up those 38 electoral votes.

(154 posts)It's very frustrating for those who live in this state especially seeing what is happening in the Rio Grande Valley. It seems to be doing what the state as a whole did in the seventies and 80s. I don't understand why the Rio Grande Valley is tilting more and more Republican. I know it's mostly the rural voters and overall Texas is becoming slightly more democratic with us capturing some of the suburbs especially around austin. Montgomery County and that county has New Braunfels seem to be lost causes it for now
