Flipping the Texas House is the only way to stop the GOP's fascist agenda. But can it be done in 2024?

The 2024 election cycle is only 134 days away, and the stakes have never been higher for Texans. With the GOP holding a firm grip on the Texas House, the implementation of increasingly extreme policies continues to threaten the rights and well-being of countless residents. From restrictive voting laws to draconian measures on reproductive rights, the current trajectory points to an ever-narrowing path for democracy in the Lone Star State. But amidst this bleak landscape, a question arises: is it possible to flip the Texas House in 2024?
It absolutely is, but we have to fight like hell.

(8,343 posts)for a massive sea change by the voters themselves. This sounds simplistic but with the knowledge that the government has about potential voters these days they can design districts at the street level based on voter preference.
Texas like most states is able to sacrifice a few districts to the Dems in order to maintain a super majority at the State level. The same applies at the US Congressional level.
However, if we can ever win a statewide election for key leaders such as Senator, Governor, AG, Agriculture, etc. that are not affected by gerrymandering then it will be a hopeful sign that change is happening. The greatest hope for this is the suburbs as more people move out of the cities due to high cost of living in areas such as Austin.
Because Texas is so large and there are so many rural areas where in truth it is like living in a segregated place with very little diversity the odds of changing peoples voting preferences are slim.
I keep hoping that Collin Allred can defeat Ted Cruz this year - it is simply amazing that such a vile human being keeps getting re-elected. Of course I can stay that about Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton and almost every other statewide elected official.
Sadly, it is a reflection of the majority of most Texans - it is who we are.
