Young women in Texas, what are you waiting for?

2. Not everyone can just pick up and leave.

The assertions to the contrary are misguided and a bit condescending.

Besides, things aren't any better in nearly all of the surrounding states. That further complicates matters. Moving halfway across the country is not a simple task.

4. When you're desperate, you'll find a way to escape.

If I were 18 (again) and in Texas, I'd be willing to leave behind all my possessions, leave my family, steal out in the middle of the night on a bus out of the state. Yeah, the border states are restrictive, but not like Texas. And stay there until enough money can get you North.

3. Not a woman, nor thank god not from Texas.

Maybe women should organize, maybe attempt to change laws in Texas so that as soon as the lady is aware of her pregnancy that they can start collecting child-support from the man responsible. Maybe include non-spousal support from the man responsible too.

5. Got stationed here for work

Immediately registered as a voter so I could be another progressive voice here. I'm also 35, got good healthcare, and a supportive husband.

I do think that anyone who can flee, should, especially if they're a young woman, LGBTQ+, a POC, or an immigrant.

The rest of us need to be the voice that changes things. Be loud about our support of progressive policies. Advertise that we love ACTUAL democracy. Register other voters. And vote, in every single election that we're legally allowed to.

That being said, the moment that this contract is up, I'm out of here, and I'll never set foot in this state again if they don't get their heads out of their asses. Until then, vote!

6. I'd rather they stay

and do their part to reshape Texas rather than just giving up to flee. Texas is so very close to flipping. Now is not the time to abandon the hard-working folks trying to bring back common sense.
