Twelve Republican candidates for the Texas Legislature signed this extreme group's pledge to file legislation to ban IVF and make abortion a capital punishment crime.

Over the last decade, Ive watched hundreds of Republican speeches and events. The video below is one of the most shocking and terrifying things Ive ever seen from the far right. Twelve Republican candidates have signed their pledge, agreeing to file this legislation if elected.
The video was taken in Granbury at a True Texas Project event. The speaker is Paul Brown, the Director of Policy and Operations of a fringe group called Abolish Abortion Texas.
The video starts with Brown saying, An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. He discussed how women who have abortions should be executed under Gods law. He then goes on to talk about how abortion is murder, starting at the moment of fertilization, even before implantation.
Brown calls the PlanB pill, or the Morning After pill, a form of abortion. Then he says other categories of abortion include what happens in IVF when a fertilized egg is created and then destroyed.

(4,738 posts)I find the self righteousness of these men and others like them to be unexplainable. How can one person or group of persons think of themselves on a par with their so called god. That is, unless they believe their "god" to be non-existent and simply a way for them to grab ultimate power.

It doesn't matter that his facts are wrong.
He can hide behind the usual excuse, "god".

(9,571 posts)The Texas Republican Party is so beholden to the Religious Right and the anti-abortion fanatics that they have to do what theyre toldor get thrown out of office. Judging by the news, it isnt just the moderate anti-abortion fanatics who are calling the shots in the anti-abortion movement, but the crazed fanatics who want to not only ban abortion, but ALL birth control, then jail women for having abortion or even trying to access it.
The only way to put an end to the spread of this malign idiocy is to revoke the benefit of the doubt for any Texas Republican running for office. Theyre willing to ban abortion, outlaw birth control, and jail women for having abortions or even birth control. And since their policies would set off a voter revolt even in apathetic and indolent Texas, they have to fudge, lie and obfuscate to the general electorate, then follow their marching orders from the extremists to the letter.
The ONLY way to deal with this crap is to assume that Republicans making moderate noises are lying, always lying. Assume theyre lying no matter what they say. Then vote them out of office.
And if Republican politicos whine about it, point out the obviousthis is the blowback from the Devils bargain they made with the Religious Right decades ago,
