Texas Congressman Al Green played an important role in the defeat of the impeachment of Sec. Mayorkas

Part of Congressman Al Green's district includes part of my county. I have known Al since around 2010 or so and got to explain to him the filings in the Texas Voter Id case and the role that ALEC played in voter suppression. Back in 2011, Al had not heard of ALEC. Al had been available when we needed voter protection help and is a good guy even though he told my kids that I was a civil rights attorney (I am a corporate attorney and voting rights is a hobby). Al introduced me to Congressman John Lewis at a fundraiser.

Al had surgery scheduled today and so Maga Mike and MTG scheduled this vote counting on Al not being able to vote.

MTG is pissed that Al showed up

A Texas congressperson helped save Sec. Mayorkas.

I fear that the GOP will redo this vote later and may still prevail.

This will be fun to watch. Scalise is not available due to cancer treatment for a week and on Tuesday there is an election in New York to replace Santos.

Scheduling a redo of the failed Mayorkas impeachment vote could be tricky for House Republican leaders. Majority Leader STEVE SCALISE, out for cancer treatments, is not expected to be voting again until next week at the earliest, and there’s another complication: Tuesday’s New York special election could change the chamber’s math yet again. If Democrat TOM SUOZZI triumphs, the vote could be delayed for weeks.

Not that I'm an expert or possess inside knowledge, but it's obvious Johnson is not up to the job of Speaker. Maybe he won't want to look like a doofus again and won't bring it up.

The Houston Chronicle has a good article on Al Green

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/texas/article/al-green-mayorkas-houston-18653317.php

Republicans had expected Green, who has been in the hospital since an emergency surgery Friday, to miss the vote. But he returned to the floor in a wheelchair and hospital scrubs for the dramatic final moments of the vote.....

Green said he went to the hospital last week after he started experiencing stomach pains. The House's attending physician told him he needed to go to the emergency room, where X-rays found he had a blocked intestine. He had surgery Friday and is still in the hospital recovering.....

Green said there was no strategy involved and that Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries was surprised when he called to let him know he planned to make it for the vote. Green said he was watching the news Tuesday and that was when he found out the vote was planned for that evening. He made arrangements with the hospital to allow him to travel to the Hill and rested in a bed in the attending physician's office until the Mayorkas vote came up. Green said he didn't want to come to the floor for earlier votes because it would cause a spectacle.

Green said the vote was important because Mayorkas has helped with multiple cases in which his constituents had immigration issues. In one case last year, Green said, an undocumented child needed emergency dialysis and Mayorkas helped speed up parole so he could receive the treatment from Texas Children's Hospital.
