Related: About this forumElection 2024 voting information
Motivation - a thread where people can post useful information about registration, voting and voting mechanics for the 2024 election in Texas (both primaries and general). Please do not post controversial items here (no campaigning). But I would think links explaining any local elections would be ok (ex: City council or other resolutions). League of Women Voters and progressive site explainers are welcome (ex: Austin Chronicle endorsements - which usually add a ton of narration).

(9,005 posts)with no statewide Dems elected in 30 years and because the GOP has been in control for so long they have basically gerrymandering the State to the point that there are very few competitive races. Meaning that in reality, our vote really doesn't count.
Of course that could change if somehow, someway we could make the word Democrat, Liberal, Progressive not a dirty word for voters - especially in the rural areas. As yellowdogdemocrat1 said in a previous post..."As far as the rural people, they don't like city-slickers. It's the old country mouse city mouse thing, it's been around forever."
My conclusion is this - if we could change Texas to a BLUE state then the problem would be solved for our nation. With 40 electoral votes, second only to Calif's 54, the GOP could never win another election. I know it is a dream but when I was transferred here in 1974, Texas was a BLUE State - so it is possible.
I was never ashamed to call myself a Texan before but now it simply does not reflect decent values and something has to change.
